Nana’s Christmas Buttermilk Cinnamon Roll Recipe
Hello Pretty Ladies,
Do you have a family recipe that has become a tradition? That one recipe you only get to enjoy once a year? For me and my family, it’s my mom’s cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. I grew up with my mom making these every Christmas morning, and only on Christmas morning. ( Why just on Christmas?) They could be enjoyed any time of the year! Maybe that’s what makes them so Special.
My mom, AKA Nana, continues making them every Christmas morning for all to enjoy, and our boys have also come to know this tradition. It really wouldn’t be Christmas without them. I always look forward to eating one every Christmas morning, and I will cherish even more the Christmas mornings my mom is in our kitchen making them.
Nana’s Christmas Buttermilk Cinnamon Roll Recipe
Ingredients:
5 cups flour
Two teaspoons of baking powder
1/3 cup sugar
Three packets of dry yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup of warm water
1/2 cup butter
1 Tsp Baking Soda
2 cups buttermilk
Cinnamon
How to make:
Sift flour, sugar, and baking soda together. Add buttermilk and mix well. Gather into a ball and let it rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
When ready, roll out the dough until it is a large rectangle. Spread one cube of softened butter on the dough, and add more if needed. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon (don’t be shy about cinnamon). Roll into a log and slice into 20 pieces.
Preheat the oven to 350F, bake for 20 minutes, and then frost with homemade icing or drizzle on warm. You can also rub on melted butter as a substitute.
Simple Icing Recipe:
4 ounces of cream cheese (softened)
¼ cup of butter (softened)
1½ cups of powdered sugar
One teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt in a medium mixing bowl.
Mixed until creamy
I love it with just butter, but almost everyone loves it with the frosting.
